Hawken publisher gets $10 million in funding

Meteor Entertainment, the publisher behind shoot-a-mech’a’fest Hawken by developer Adhesive Games, has reportedly raised a whopping $10 million in additional funds.

The idea seems to be to turn Hawken into a franchise, complete with graphic novels, videos and a tie-in feature film eventually, in addition to the fast-paced mech shooter which of course is what we’re focusing on for now.

Investors in the latest series of funding are said to include Benchmark Capital and FirstMark Capital, both of which also made a sizable contribution to Riot Games — the studio behind the wildly popular League of Legends — so none of them are strangers to taking risks.

Hawken aims to join the ever-growing list of games that embrace the free-to-play formula come December.
