Tekken producer ponders Wii U enhancements

Katsuhiro Harada, producer on the Tekken series, has spoken a little bit about what the Wii U could do for the famous fighting franchise, which was announced to be coming to the system at its reveal last E3.

Referring to the system’s unique tablet controller, Harada suggested a range of ideas for guides and character customization to Nintendo Gamer.

“We’re thinking about a different use for the second screen,” he said. “I’ve often heard about or seen fighting-game players playing with a strategy guide open at their feet. So it would be useful if we could, for example, distribute an enhanced digital version of the guide that the player could see while playing, and even touch to have a live preview on the main screen.

“Another thing I would like to do is use the capacity to write on the screen. I’d like to implement a feature such as being able to customise the character by drawing and painting on the screen.”

Perhaps touch controls would also be a possibility, given that Vita fighting titles like Mortal Kombat and Marvel vs Capcom 3 currently use them. Hopefully these ideas will take a more concrete form by next E3.
