Blizzard has announced plans to axe a massive number of jobs worldwide; 600 people will soon be looking for new positions.
The development of World of Warcraft is said not to be affected, as approximately 90% of the jobs aren’t related to game development. Where exactly the cuts do come from remains unclear though.
CEO Mike Morhaime explains the situation: “Constant evaluation of teams and processes is necessary for the long-term health of any business. Over the last several years, we’ve grown our organization tremendously and made large investments in our infrastructure in order to better serve our global community. However, as Blizzard and the industry have evolved we’ve also had to make some difficult decisions in order to address the changing needs of our company.”
Development and publishing schedules are not affected, with specifics for Diablo III‘s launch promised “in the near future.”
