Assassin’s Creed III aims to look next-gen on current-gen

The Assassin’s Creed III hype train is yet to leave the station. In quite the statement, Ubisoft has said that its intention with the title is to create a game that looks next-gen, on this generation of hardware.

“It’s a scary thing to say, but I think the goal was to look next-gen on current-gen,” creative director Alex Hutchinson revealed to Game Informer in its latest issue (via). An in-engine trailer was released yesterday; watch it here and judge for yourself.

You can find all the screenshots released so far in the gallery here as well.

Assassin’s Creed III is running on the AnvilNext engine — work on which started right after Assassin’s Creed II — “a revolutionary” piece of game tech according to the company.

AC3 will launch this October, on the 31st.
