Yesterday we said we had high hopes for Counter-Strike: Global Offesnive‘s cross-play options. Today, we’re reporting that, well, there aren’t any.
Through the ongoing beta Valve has decided to strip the feature from the game in favor of constant updates. That means the likes of PS3 players won’t be able to join in with PC ones like they could in last year’s Portal 2.
“The beta has proved we want to update not just the beta, but the game itself post-launch frequently on the PC,” Valve’s Chet Faliszek explained to Joystiq. “To do that we need to separate the platforms so one doesn’t hamstring the other. So for that, we have removed the idea of cross-platform play — essentially make all platforms stronger by not mixing them.”
It’s a shame, but this is likely to lead to a better experience across all platforms. A bit of better news, though, the game will be here in the summer.
