UK retail drops in February, Final Fantasy sells best

February 2012 marked a year-on-year decrease for UK games retailers, MCV reports.

Unit sales were down by 29 percent from 2011, while software sales were down by nearly 25 percent. In total 2,314,424 games were sold, generating £55 million for outlets.

The month’s best-seller was Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII-2, followed by Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. The usual suspects (Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3 etc) populate the rest of the top 10.

This news is hardly surprising, given Game Group’s current troubles. Will March releases like Mass Effect 3 help pick up the slack?
