Avalanche Studios will be revealing its next title at E3 this summer, the studio’s confirmed. But it won’t be Just Cause 3 nor a follow-up to the downloadable Renegade Ops.
The first of two of the studio’s games to be released in 2013, it’ll be a licensed title, but it won’t be based on a movie.
“We aren’t particularly interested in movie-based games,” CEO Christofer Sundberg tells IGN. “I think the whole industry destroyed that. So much money’s been pumped into those crappy games, it’s amazing. It’s really scary when you look at how bad they are.”
While it won’t be the next Just Cause as noted, it will be an open-world game — as will all other games in the works at Avalanche — running on a modified version of Just Cause 2‘s tech. “It’s really challenging and fun to show license holders what we can do with an open world,” Sundberg says.
Whether rumors of the studio’s involvement in a Mad Max game have any merit, he wouldn’t comment.
Til E3, then.
