Valve shoots down Steam Box rumors

Valve has rubbished the recent rumor of the company planning to launch a set-top box — Steam Box it was reportedly called — that would operate Steam and other similar services.

“We’re prepping the Steam Big Picture Mode UI and getting ready to ship that, so we’re building boxes to test that on,” Valve marketing director Doug Lombardi has told Kotaku.

“We’re also doing a bunch of different experiments with biometric feedback and stuff like that, which we’ve talked about a fair amount.

“All of that is stuff that we’re working on”.

Lombardi didn’t outright deny the possibility of a box with a Valve logo on it somewhere down the line, but said the company is “a long way from shipping any sort of hardware.”
