With all the usual suspects—Call of Duty, Final Fantasy, Just Dance—dominating the majority of last month’s US game sales, it was rather refreshing to see Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, an entirely new IP, come in as the fourth highest-selling title on the overall list. Now, actual figures for 38 Studios and Big Huge Games’ epic have arrived, and the numbers are fairly impressive: the game sold 330,000 copies across the 360, PS3, and PC in the US alone last month.
So, yes, successful RPGs are successful. While by no means a blockbuster (see: Mass Effect 3), it is a promising start for a debut title. Worldwide sales figures have not been released yet, but for now it would appear that this project has been a success, despite having one of the clunkiest game titles this generation.
