Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition announced for summer release

Seemingly out of nowhere, a Baldur’s Gate teaser site complete with countdown sprung up a few weeks ago. The site has now officially revealed that a Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition is being released this summer.

The game is being developed by Overhaul Games which includes developers who worked on the original game, released 14 years ago.

According to the developers, the game won’t be a simple remake. Brand new content is being developed specifically for this version along with a graphical overhaul courtesy of an updated version of the Infinity Engine. It is also set to include the expansion pack Tales of the Sword Coast.

This will be Overhaul Games’ second remake following their updating of the classic MDK 2. It has also been suggested that the second game in the series, Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn could be getting a remake as well, though no release date has been announced.

Apparently this news has excited long term fans, desperate to return to Faerun as the official site of the remake crashed soon after the countdown ended. Even now it’s difficult to gain access due to heavy traffic, though you can try by following this link.

Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition will be released exclusively through Beamdog sometime this summer.
