There seems to be some miscommunication within the upper ranks of Angry Birds developer Rovio.
Initial reports yesterday stated that the Finnish studio’s latest entry in their smash mobile franchise, Angry Birds Space, would skipping release for Windows Phone 7. As Rovio chief marketing officer Peter Vesterbacka said in an interview with Bloomberg, “We’re the No. 1 app in the Windows Phone app store, but it’s a big undertaking to support it, and you have to completely rewrite the application.”
Just a few hours later, though, Rovio CEO Mikael Hed contradicted the earlier reports, telling Reuters that they indeed “are working towards getting Angry Birds Space to WP7.” He did not disclose any information about a potential release date for the WP7 version of the title.
Angry Birds Space was released Thursday for iOS, Android, Mac and PC to mostly critical acclaim, and quickly became the top-selling game in Apple’s App Store. At present, the original Angry Birds is the most popular app in the Windows Phone app store.
