Torchlight II will “ideally” launch a month after big rival Diablo III, developer Runic Games’ CEO Max Schaefer has said.
Speaking to Joystiq at PAX East this weekend, the exec said he didn’t want his game to coincide with that of the Blizzard giant. Instead, it seems they’re aiming to release it shortly after the long-awaited Diablo, which would be the “ideal” timing. Optimistically, he said it’ll be a month after.
At its $20 price point, Shafer also noted that he doesn’t want Torchlight II to be the cheap alternative, but rather the less expensive one.
Once the game does arrive, he feels it will have been worth the wait: “Be patient. Our total development time on this game is going to be about two years, which is not unreasonably long for this type of game. We’re going as fast as we can. It’ll be worth the wait, it’ll totally be worth the wait. In the long run, people will be happy we took this extra time.”
