Ubisoft gets into patent squabble over Rocksmith

Ubisoft’s Rocksmith has already seen its fair share of legal trouble, having its UK release held back thanks to a battle of names with a UK band of the same title.

Now it has guitar tutoring company Guitar Apprentice after it. The company is suing Ubisoft for patent infringement with a product that lets users play instruments to audio signals. The patent was filed in October 2010, claiming priority to a provisional application file June 30, 2010. As Patent Arcade explains, this may come down to a battle of validity, referencing other similar products that have previously been released.

Rocksmith hit the US last year and will be out in the UK in September.
