We’ve got a Baldur’s Gate overload on our hands, people. With Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition already expected to drop this summer and later this year, respectively, today brings the news that Icewind Dale, a fellow D&D RPG which ran on the same engine as the Baldur’s Gate games, could be in the works as well.
Beamdog head Trent Oster sparked the speculation on his Twitter (via), that ever-running engine of the rumor mill, when he responded to a fan hopeful for an Icewind Dale remake by responding, “The topic of Icewind Dale has come up a number of times. We are interested, but first we need Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition to succeed.”
Seems simple enough, then, Icewind Dale fans.
As for revivals of other classic favorites, Oster shot down the possibility of an Ultima RPG coming from him anytime soon, saying, “We talked to EA about Ultima when we were exploring ideas. They told us no thanks.” You can’t win them all, I suppose.
