Microsoft sees setback in Q1 2012

Somewhat surprisingly, Micrsoft have posted a loss $229 million (£143m) in its entertainment and devices division for Q1 2012. This section includes its Xbox 360 business. Xbox sales were apparently down by almost half during this period, ending March 31.

The division’s revenue was down 16.5 per cent, to $1.6 billion (£1bn). The popular console sold 1.4 million units, a drop of about 48 percent from last year’s 2.7 million during the same quarter.

According to the company the “soft gaming console market” was to blame. The company as a whole made $17.41 billion (£10.87bn), so we wouldn’t worry too much at this news.

Perhaps though, this suggests that it’s time to shed light on that new Xbox?
