Forty percent of folks downloading and playing freemium games are also making in-game purchases, a new report from NPD claims (via). Get ready for some stats.
6,400 people were questioned for the report, which also found that female players are more likely to play free games but less likely to buy in-game items. 84 percent of freemium players continue playing after the initial try, with the majority of them making their first purchase within a month. On the other hand, 15 percent of folks don’t even bother with freemium games.
All in all, with 38 percent of the entire us population playing freemium games, it would seem the business model has justified itself yet again.
