Sega announces Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

A new kart racer from Sega, which features a vehicle transformation mechanic akin to that of recent 3DS hit Mario Kart 7, is coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS, and PC. The game is a sequel to 2010’s Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, which received mostly positive reception.

Sonic and friends jockey for position in cars that can shift into jets and boats as they encounter different types of terrain. The concept originally comes from Nintendo 64’s Diddy Kong Racing, where players could choose between kart, plane, and hovercraft at the beginning of each race.

In addition to Sonic greats like Dr. Eggman and Tails, the game will include characters from titles like Super Monkey Ball, Golden Axe, and Skies of Arcadia.
