German court has banned Xbox 360 and Windows Phone 7 devices from being sold in the country, due to Microsoft infringing on some of Motorola’s patents. Oops.
It’s not as dire as it sounds though; even though the German court has granted Motorola an injunction against the distribution and sale of Microsoft’s products, a US district court in Seattle has in turn granted Microsoft a preliminary injunction against Motorola, preventing it from enacting the German ruling.
Bottom line, Microsoft’s products will remain on shelves for now.
“Motorola is prohibited from acting on today’s decision,” a Microsoft rep has told Reuters (via), “and our business in Germany will continue as usual while we appeal this decision and pursue the fundamental issue of Motorola’s broken promise.”
Last week, it was determined by the US International Trade Commission that the platform holder has infringed on a few of Motorola’s patents, video decoding and Wi-Fi connection among them.
