Art In Games: Khai Nguyen

Quite a coincidence that Ubisoft decided to share some rather beautiful concept art of Assassin’s Creed (in its very early stages) just as I was planning on doing that myself for today’s AIG feature. But we’ll go with the fresh stuff this time, which spontaneously would have you believe it was done for a Prince of Persia game. But as Khai Nguyen (the illustrator) stated, “we were all under the illusion that we were making a Prince of Persia: Sands of Time spin-off. The assassin was supposed to be the little prince’s bodyguard,” probably referencing the artwork showing the assassin riding on a horse, protecting a child.

What was even more intriguing was the fact that Nguyen and the team toyed around with having a female assassin in the game, as illustrated below as well, which might have made the game even more enticing to female gamers. And, the possibility that comes with having two assassins, co-op play, which is also illustrated in one of the illustrations… if you look closely. Unfortunately, four games into the series and we’re still without it. May Assassin’s Creed III put an end to that.
