Kingdom Hearts creator wants the series to return to consoles

Square Enix’s Tetsuya Nomura, creator of Kingdom Hearts, has announced that he would like to bring his mega-hit RPG series back to consoles.

Though the series began on PlayStation 2, it has since moved primarily into handheld space, a trend that continues with with recent title Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance releasing on Nintendo’s 3DS this year. Whether or not this statement has any bearing on a potential Kingdom Hearts 3 remains to be seen, but it ought to be noted that the two “main series” games (that is, Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2) were the only two to appear on consoles.

Additionally, Nomura noted potential concern regarding the fact that the series is spread out over so many different consoles. He explained that he might like to remedy this somehow in the future. Perhaps he’s hinting at an HD collection–they seem to be all the rage these days!
