A brand new Xbox 360 controller detailed in a recently-approved Microsoft patent from 2009 claims that it will be able to recognize the person holding it at any given time. The controller itself is reported to feature sensors that will be able distinguish a user’s identity simply from their hand-pressure patterns and fingerprints.
What benefit would this serve players you may ask? The controller, essentially, would be able to automatically switch user profiles depending on who is holding it, at least ideally. Whether this idea flourishes into anything significant remains to be seen. Perhaps we’ll learn more at, oh I don’t know, E3 maybe?
