Updated: Fifth BF3 expansion, Premium service rumored

Update: It’s official; as rumored just a little while ago, the Battlefield 3 Double XP weekend has now been formalized by DICE and EA.

From tomorrow, Saturday, May 12 at 12:01AM PST through Sunday, May 13 at 11:59PM PST, all players will be getting double the XP on all maps game modes.

It’s further explained: “At the conclusion of each match, players total points for the round will be reflected in the end of round screen and classified as ‘ADDITIONAL POINT”. Double XP will be accrued across all ranked servers and matches.”

The announcement makes no mention of platforms, so this should apply to all PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions.

Original story: DICE and EA are prepping a Battlefield Premium service, rumor as it, with it giving subscribers “a number of content drops with unique in-game items not available anywhere else.” Said content includes a “one-of-a-kind Premium knife and black dog tag, plus a set of soldier camos, weapon camos, dog tags and Assignments that will make sure you stand out and get more personalization options.” Grand.

It will apparently launch on June 4th.

More excitingly, a fifth, yet-to-be-announced multiplayer expansion is said to be planned for some time next year, along with some bonus content this August. Plus, next month’s Close Quarters DLC is believed to launch on the 12th.

The source has also said that there will be a double XP weekend this week. EA nor DICE are yet to announce anything,  so we should know soon enough whether to trust this deep throat.
