Hoping for a Dead Island 2? Fuggedaboutit. For now at least.
Deep Silver has shot down rumors that Spec Ops: The Line developer Yager would be working on the open-world sequel once it wrapped up work on its soon-to-release shooter. No ands, ifs or buts.
Reads a statement from development director Guido Eickmeyer: “Yager and Deep Silver do have a very close relationship, based on personal and professional connections between the parties. There is a legitimate chance that we will – at some point – work together on a title – and I would not even exclude the possibility that this could be something within the Dead Island franchise. We have the greatest respect for this team, we absolutely love what we have seen so far from SpecOps – and we are constantly discussing potential opportunities.”
The statement goes on to say that Dead Island 2 is not in the concept or production phases “with external partners” and that they have “neither something in place or in discussion between the parties that would explain such a news.”
This one’s a dud, then.
Don’t count a sequel arriving eventually though. With the first game shipping over three million copies worldwide, the game certainly left its mark.
A GOTY edition, while still to be formally announced, is expected next month.
