PlayStation 4 in 2013 — WSJ

The next PlayStation home console will be arriving on shelves next year, The Wall Street Journal is reporting. Unnamed sources are the basis for the news.

There are more bits as well; Sony apparently considered going the download-only route with the PS4, but decided against it due to how much rather crappy internet connections there still are in the world. The PSP Go’s performance helped make the decision only so much easier.

The WSJ piece also writes that the next machine from Microsoft would be using an optical disc drive as well.

A download-only approach is the future though, even GameStop CEO Paul Raines agrees. “If we all agree the technology is inevitable—which I think it is because it’s like death and taxes—it’s still going to take longer to happen than it did for music and movies,” he told the outlet.
