THQ has confirmed the closure of its San Diego studio which was previously responsible for the UFC franchise. This follows EA’s recent E3 announcement of their buyout of the MMA fighting license for an undisclosed amount.
THQ has stated that they are “working closely with those relevant staff to either find possible employment within the company, or potentially with EA.”
The studio was rumoured to be working on an entirely new UFC project following the release of last year’s WWE All Stars.
The news is somewhat surprising as THQ’s most recent MMA licensed game UFC Undisputed 3 rose to number one in the UK software charts as recent as February.
