UFC license sold due to financial reasons

Unless you missed EA’s E3 press conference, you’re probably aware of the fact that the publisher now has firmly grasped the UFC license, which was previously under THQ’s possession for several years. Despite the UFC franchise being a big hit for THQ, the games have fallen short of what was expected of them, which is why the somewhat troubled company decidedly sold the rights to competitor EA.

The latest entries in the franchise, UFC Undisputed 2010 and UFC Undisputed 3, have both underperformed with the latter failing to reach the so-called break-even point, despite THQ noting the title had sold better than expected.

THQ’s San Diego studio, developer of the UFC games, took the biggest hit though as its closure was just recently revealed due to the fact mentioned above.
