Everybody waiting for a new Zelda game? A Wii U Zelda game perhaps? Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but alas it goes with the job on days like these. Anybody paying any attention to this year’s E3 will have noticed the lack of any such game, allegedly as Nintendo is still deciding the direction of the series on their new hardware.
“With the last game, Skyward Sword, that was a game where you had motion control to use your weapons and a lot of different items, and I thought that was a lot of fun,” designer Shigeru Miyamoto told Entertainment Weekly. “But there were some people who weren’t able to do that or didn’t like it as much and stopped playing partway through it.”
Many hopes were raised back in E3 2011 when Nintendo showed off a Zelda Wii U tech demo, but unfortunately it seems that was just to show off some pretty visuals on the new console. On a slightly more positive note it’s worth remembering it was a Zelda game that gave us the best example of just what the Wii was capable of, maybe it’ll lead the way this time around as well. Miyamoto finished off by giving us a few hints at what they’re currently working on.
“So we have a number of different experiments going on, and [when] we decide that we’ve found the right one of those to really help bring Zelda to a very big audience, then we’ll be happy to announce it.”
Always look on the bright side.
