It’s official; the long tradition of skull modifiers in Halo’s cooperative component have gone by the wayside.
In an interview with OXM, Halo 4’s lead multiplayer designer Kevin Franklin revealed that they have moved away from the notion of skulls in favor of expanding upon their new progression system, which spans across every mode in the game.
This progression system introduces several new assist medals, such as being rewarded for distracting an enemy or helping kill the score leader in a free-for-all versus game. Essentially, players will be rewarded more for working as a team much in the same vein as the Battlefield series.
No word yet as to whether or not skulls will appear in the single-player. Maybe they’re concocting something much grander and more spectacular in their place? We’ll just have to wait and see.
