Sega announces Total War: Rome II

The Creative Assembly’s next entry in the Total War franchise has them returning to their most “critically acclaimed era.”  It has been eight years since the release of the original Rome: Total War, and this time around, we can expect a more intimate look into the intrigue and drama of Rome’s senate.  According to The Creative Assembly’s Creative Director Mike Simpson, “From the immense reach of the sandbox campaign right down to the human-level drama on the battlefield, we’re aiming for an unprecedented level of detail and scale.”

Creative Assembly has been making the Total War games for twelve years, and I am sure they will deliver on their large-scale turn-based/real-time hybrid gameplay.  The question is whether or not the senate portions will be equally intriguing, or at least interesting enough to produce a compelling narrative.  The Creative Assembly has certainly chosen a both historically dramatic and well-documented setting, so we can only hope they exploit it properly.

Rome II will be released on PC in 2013. Catch the first trailer below and some images in the gallery here.
