Microsoft announces October release for Windows 8

Microsoft has announced at a conference in Toronto when we can expect Windows 8 to be available. While a specific release date was not given, consumers can expect both new computers with Windows 8 and upgrade options in the month of October. Also announced, computer manufacturers can expect Windows 8 during the first week of August to start testing their new products in advance of the October release. Microsoft hopes that Windows 8 can help make them competitive in the mobile devices market where Apple and Google have dominated.

For us gamers Windows 8 does have built in Xbox Live access so you can easily share music and videos between devices. Windows 8 will also play a major role in the Smart Glass initiative announced this year at E3, which makes this gamer wonder if Smart Glass will launch the same day Windows 8 does. I guess we’ll find out in October.
