Next Xbox will cost $99, have subscription says analyst

Michael Pachter, gaming analyst at Wedbush Securities, has made some predictions on the next generation Xbox. At the Evolve conference Mr. Pachter stated that Microsoft will adopt a pricing model similar to that of a smartphone, which calls for low money down with payments being made monthly. Currently you can buy an Xbox 360 + Kinect bundle for $99 with a subscription of $15 dollars a month for two years. Pachter believes that Microsoft will continue this pricing model and offer their next Xbox using this structure.

In addition to pricing he also indicated that Microsoft will go after smart TVs with the next Xbox. “You won’t need a ‘smart TV’ when you’ve got an Xbox 720, it will be your television and your internet. It’s going to be open architecture and I think it’s real trick will be that one Xbox will be able to display television to as many screens as you have in your possession”. With entertainment features becoming as important as the games themselves this strategy would make sense.

Is this pricing structure something you would be interested in for the next generation of consoles? What features would you like to see? Give us your opinions in the comments below.
