In an interview today with Rock Paper Shotgun, producer Tanya Jessen mentioned that a constant Internet connection for newly announced title Fortnite was something they are considering.“That’s something we don’t know yet,” Jessen said. “It’s gonna be really dependent on gameplay, and it’s also dependent on platform. So whatever we decide to do there is gonna be more relevant to the most fun experience you can have with your friends [than it is to piracy]. But I can’t nail that down today.”
Constant Internet connections in video games have been sort of a hot topic as of late. Diablo III was flamed by some fans for not only requiring an Internet connection but all the issues that players had connecting to the servers the week of its release. Epic maintains that if they were to require an Internet connection it would only be in the interest of fun and to fight piricary.
Last week we announced that Fortnite was going to be the first game on Epic’s new Unreal Engine 4 platform.
