Epic Games has announced the opening of Impossible Studios, a company that is based in Hunt Valley, Maryland. Impossible Studios was founded in June and will add world-class game development skills and creativity to Epic’s already growing team.
The company’s first project is Infinity Blade: Dungeons, a touch-based action role-playing game for iOS. The game first began development at Epic Games’ Cary, North Carolina studio in collaboration with Epic and ChAIR and has now moved to Impossible Studios.
Impossible Studios team consists of former employees of Big Huge Games, who you might be familiar with. They have worked on games such as the renowned Rise of Nations strategy series, Catan for Xbox Live Arcade, and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Big Huge Games was also named one of Game Developers magazine’s top 30 developers of the world earlier this year.
Studio director Sean Dunn stated “Epic Games has truly embraced this stellar collection of developers who were displaced by the closing of Big Huge Games. They have looked after us with complete care, giving us all the tools and resources we need to make a lot of gamers happy.” Epic Games President Dr. Michael Capps and Infinity Blade: Dungeons lead game designer, Ian Frazier, will be in a panel at DragonCon in Atlanta on August 31.
