In an announcement made to the press today, company PowerA revealed that they will be releasing a gaming adapter called “MOGA” which brings precision gaming controls to Android mobile devices. The device will reportedly receive distribution through major retailers such as Best Buy, T-Mobile stores and Toys”R”Us. The device is set to launch on October 21st.
“MOGA turns almost any Android device into an amazing game system,” Joe Campos, Buyer Electronics at Toys”R”Us. “MOGA is a must-have gift for the gamer on your holiday list.”
PowerA seems to be banking on the fact that many people now own powerful smartphones which are more than capable of serving a full-fledged gaming device. Seems pretty smart to me, and the controller looks comfortable enough, not to mention it includes dual joysticks.
“T-Mobile has an incredible line-up of smartphones with amazing screens and lightning fast processors,” said Brad Duea, senior vice president of marketing at T-Mobile USA. “We partner with innovative leaders like MOGA to provide our customers the best mobile gaming experiences and we’re excited our customers will be able to take their Android devices, pair them with MOGA, and turn their phones into a complete mobile game platform.”
What about software you ask? Of course games are the most important part.Well apparently PowerA has that figured out too. Major developers such as Atari, Namco Bandai, SEGA, and Remedy Entertainment have reportedly committed to developing games which will utilize the MOGA’s precise controls to the fullest. If the above mentioned developers can offer quality games for the MOGA, I could see the device being a big hit. Here’s hoping this means more quality Android titles.
