It’s time we were introduced to The Elder Scrolls Online

Zenimax Online has posted the first video in its documentary-style series that will let us in on The Elder Scrolls Online. With nearly 10 minutes of footage, we get a really great glimpse of what Zenimax and Bethesda have been doing to mesh The Elder Scrolls series with the MMO genre. Please, if you are at all interested in this game, do yourself a favor and watch.

When I first heard about this game, I was incredibly skeptical. And as a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls series I still am to some degree, but after watching this video I am beginning to feel a bit better about it. Something that immediately jumped out to me was that the world and character models look great. I saw places that I had visited in Oblivion and Morrowind that brought upon an immediate nostalgic charm to the game. All the races are featured (Dunmer look like Dunmer again!), as well as the familiarity of armor and weapon sets, like Dwarven, Elven and Daedric. In true Elder Scrolls fashion, how you decide to play shapes your character, so there is nothing wrong with playing a heavily armored ranger or two-handed axe wielding mage. It’s a huge step to take a beloved franchise out of its single-player niche and bring it out for the masses to play online together, but I think that Zenimax is taking the right steps to quell the pitfalls that could find fans boycotting this addition to The Elder Scrolls series. Either way, I will definitely be staying tuned to these videos as they roll more out in the coming months.
