The Phantom Pain trailer released

It looks like we very well could have a Metal Gear Solid 5 on our hands. Last night, at the Video Game Awards 2012, there was a trailer shown for a game titled ‘The Phantom Pain’ said to be developed by Moby Dick Studios. However, it seems plenty of fans of the Metal Gear Solid franchise aren’t believing that the trailer for this game is called ‘The Phantom Pain’, nor do they believe ‘Moby Dick Studios’ is real.

Fans from all over, NeoGAF specifically, have been putting the pieces together and have determined this is in fact Metal Gear Solid 5. Well, I did a little research and I can tell you that Moby Dick Studios is a real company. They are Swedish company listed for Playstation 3 and XBOX 360 titles. So, how much of the speculations are true? Let’s take a look at them below:

1. The doctor seen in the trailer looks similar to Dr. Kio Marv from Metal Gear 2 (if you are unfamiliar with him, a simple Google images search will refresh your memory)

2. During the trailer, you can see the main reaching for petals which look similar to those you see at the end of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

3. There is a scar visible just below the main’s right eye, similar to the one found on the Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes… Same location too

4. Lighting effects for the trailer are similar to that used in the Fox Engine

5. He has a mullet

6. Volgin, from MGS3, is seen in the trailer at 2:30 (this is who fans believe him to be anyway, no confirmation aside from similar legs)

7. The “phantom” title for this trailer is a continuation of the “two phantoms were born” for Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes, so some believe it could even be tied to that game

Now that I’ve given you all of the speculations and rumors… Take a look at the trailer yourself and decide what you think about the game. Is it really Metal Gear Solid 5 or is it actually a new I.P.? Is it it linked with Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes or are we all just wanting it to have some kind of relation? As for me, given the evidence, I’ll say I won’t be surprised if it does turn out to be Metal Gear Solid 5, but I will go ahead and say… This is definitely a Metal Gear Solid game.
