Witcher 3 announced, promises to be larger than Skyrim

Today CD Projekt Red is taking the wraps off the next installment in the hugely popular The Witcher franchise. Titled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt CD Projekt Red promises that we will see the White Wolf like never before.

One of the major changes is that the game will no longer have acts and chapters, instead opting for a larger sustained open world format. The open world The Witcher 3 sits in is going to be a size we have never seen before in video games. It is expected to be 20% larger than Skyrim and will take the player 30-40 mins to cross the entire map by horseback.  The developer promises a very personal story for Geralt this time around, with the main villain being someone from his personal life.

The Witcher 3 is going to be the first title on the new REDengine 3 and is slated for release in 2014 for PC and what they are calling “top of the line consoles” (wink wink, next gen consoles). We have an announcement trailer as well as a first look video from Game Informer both of which are embedded below.
