During today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, Reggie Fils-Aime introduced a new Legend of Zelda game for the 3DS to viewers. And though it takes place in the same universe, it’s not a remake of Link to the Past — it’s a new game with an original storyline set in the classic SNES world!
“What our developers want to achieve in this new Zelda game, is to reinvigorate the flat 2D world of A Link to the Past with a sense of height and volume using the three-dimensional display of the Nintendo 3DS,” explained Rils-Aime. And indeed they have! The gameplay footage looks amazing so far! If done correctly, this will add plenty of puzzle mechanics to keep gamers busy.
In addition to making use of the 3D mechanic, one of Link’s powers will be to be turn into a drawing to move alongside walls for a limited time. This changes the perspective of the game, allowing players to see previously hidden paths.
Legend of Zelda (no subtitle yet) for the 3DS will be available this holiday season.
