A few days ago during a Nintendo Direct broadcast, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata announced details that SEGA would be bringing its upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog games exclusively to the Wii U and 3DS.
“We’re delighted to be forming this new partnership with SEGA, and bringing new games in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise to Nintendo systems,” said Laurent Fischer, Managing Director of European Marketing and PR at Nintendo of Europe.
Along with that news, they also announced that Sonic Lost World would be the title of the Blue Blur’s next outing.
Today, the debut trailer has surfaced and so far the game looks amazing. It seems SEGA is taking a page out of Super Mario Galaxy for Lost Worlds by blending 2D and 3D mechanics to the game.
In an interview with IGN, producer Takashi Iizuka said, “We wanted to create an all-new design for 3D Sonic games with Sonic: Lost World. Ever since the first day of development, we were focused on creating new and unique levels to best fit this new style.”
More details will be released during E3, which begins June 11th.
Lets just hope releasing the game exclusively on the Wii U and 3DS won’t hurt sales of the game. The Sonic franchise was finally making a turn around with titles like Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations, now those of us without a Wii U console will be left out in the dark (and there are many of us according to console sales reports).
