Pokémon X and Y release date announced

Typically when a Pokémon game is released, the launch date is staggered worldwide. This won’t be the case this time around as the latest installment in the Pokémon series will be launched worldwide on the same date. On October 12th, gamers around the world will get their first crack at a 3D Pokémon adventure on their Nintendo 3Ds with Pokémon X and Y. The announcement was made this morning during the Nintendo Direct press conference.

A new type of Pokémon was also announced today bringing the number of Pokémon types up to 18 and it’s the first new type to be introduced in a decade. The new type announced will be the Fairy type and they will be super effective against Dragon-type Pokémon. That is a huge announcement as players could typically only use ice and dragon type moves against Dragon-type Pokémon, but they will have a new way to combat all those people who still use Dragonite (like I do). They also announced that previous Pokémon who would be Fairy-type will be reclassified for the new game. Examples would be Gardevoir, Marill, and Jigglypuff.

They also announced two entirely new Pokémon, Noivern and Vivillon, and they gave more info about Sylveon who they previously revealed. Sylveon is a Fairy-type Pokémon who can lord the move Moonblast, which is a powerful new move debuting in Pokemon X and Y that lowers the Pokémon’s attack stat while dealing a lot of damage. Noivern is a Flying and Dragon-type Pokémon who can learn the move Boomburst which is a new move that that is extremely powerful, but that damages nearby allies as well. Vivillon is a Bug and Flying – type Pokémon who can learn Struggle Bug, an old move that lowers the Special Attack of any Pokémon it hits while damaging them.

They also announced that players can interact with their Pokémon in a new way called the Pokémon-Amie which uses the 3DS touch screen to build a stronger bond with your team.

Will you pick up this new Pokémon adventure on October 12th?
