Natural Selection 2 has a new addition to their strategic shooter: the female TSF Marine. Her picture is below and she looks ready to kick ass just like a Marine should. She is just as protected as her male counterpart but the armour looks just a bit lighter and subtly tailored to fit her female curves.
Hugh Jeremy acknowledged in her introduction that the video game industry has a long history of sexualizing female characters to the point that female armour apparently must only protect the wearer by tactical distraction, which gives her time to dispatch her gawking opponent. It could just be magic, too.
Unknown Worlds refuses to go down that road and fully understands that they have the power to influence the gaming culture for the better.
The Natural Selection 2 female marine is first and foremost, like her male colleague, a soldier. Her armour puts function before form, while adopting the science fiction, melee combat aligned design ques that have made the male marine so uniquely recognisable.
The female marine will have three versions for the player to choose. The players that purchase the Special Edition of NS2 that was available before Beta will have the choice of the ‘Black Armour’, the Deluxe Edition will have the ‘Deluxe Armour’ and of course the standard green marine version which is available for all.
Did I mention that she will be ready for combat by late August/early September and will be completely free?
