NAMCO BANDAI Games has announced that Soul Calibur II is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and what better way to celebrate this occasion than by making an HD, fully online port of the classic 3D fighter (there is no better way, actually).
Developed by Project Soul, who know a thing or two about caliburs that are souly, Soul Calibur II HD Online is exactly what it says it is: an HD, online multiplayer version of what is highly regarded as the best title in the series. The online infrastructure will feature brand new netcode created by Project Soul, so hopefully there will be no lag when you are facing opponents around the world with characters like Taki, Mitsurugi, Talim, and the perfectly vanilla Voldo. All the modes from the original version of Soul Calibur II will be included: Arcade, Survival, VS Battle, Time Attack, Survival, Team Battle, Practice and Weapon Master. I get the feeling that console exclusive characters like Spawn and Link will not be included, though (Heihachi is the exception).
Senior Vice-President at NAMCO BANDAI Games Europe, Olivier Comte, had these words to share about the upcoming enhanced port:
“For the past 10 years, the SOULCALIBUR franchise has established itself as the best weapon-based fighting franchise for consoles. SOULCALIBUR II HD Online will allow the fans to relive online this most beloved chapter of the series with new HD graphics.”
Look to be mortally wounded by Soul Calibur II HD Online this autumn when it hits the XBLA and PSN. More info on the title can be found here. Check out an SD/HD comparison video below!
