EA announced today that its sometimes troubled game SimCity will be coming to the Mac platform on August 29th through Origin as an exclusively digital download. SimCity will be cross-platform compatible, meaning that players can play with each other regardless of what platform they are playing on. As an added bonus, anyone that bought either the boxed or digital versions of SimCity for the PC will be able to download the Mac version free of charge.
This comes as surprising news, not because its happening but rather that it has taken this long for a Mac version to be available for public consumption. With Mac becoming more widely adopted over time, one would think that releasing a version of the game as close to the actual release date as possible versus six months later. Now, to be fair to EA, they probably could not have handled more players trying to access the game than they already had.
