The Oculus Rift team just got a huge addition to its staff. John Carmack has been named the new CTO of Oculus VR. To those unfamiliar with his work, he was the co-founder of id Software and the lead programmer on such iconic titles as Wolfenstein 3D, Doom and Quake, just to name a few.
While Carmack will still be providing technical feedback for games at id Software he is a “full time employee” at Oculus VR according to their press release. This is great news for the Oculus Rift team, especially after the tragic death of co-founder Andrew Scott Reisse back in June. John Carmack has always been a big supporter of virtual reality technologies, so it only makes sense that he would want to give his technical expertise at the lead VR hardware company.
He is currently opening up a new office in Dallas, Texas and is in the process of hiring bright new minds to move forward.
