Hey gang, sorry it has taken me so long to make a post, LIFE BE CRAZY YO! But don’t worry (because I know you were), Naygom is back in business and ready rage about what he doesn’t like!
So, enough with the pleasantries, lets talk about the Creed, you know the one I’m talking about, Assassin’s Creed. Unless you’re new to gaming or have been living under a rock for quite some time, it’s the one with a lot of guys in hoods running around with knives. That is the best way to some up this series. Now don’t get me wrong I am a big fan of the Creed, but it’s a perfect example of a gaming series that has been slowly wearing down my gaming soul by means of, what I like to call, MILKING A DAMN TIRED HORSE! Yes, I am aware not many people pursue the noble profession of milking horses.
Ubisoft’s series has for sometime now, refused to let this one pass gracefully into the classic games list, instead choosing to try and make it a yearly release like Call of Duty or FIFA. So after Assassin’s Creed 3 went full blown AMERICA in part 3, we were all left wondering, what’s next? Will the next be the last installment? (Not bloody likely.) Will we finally have a female protagonist? Will we have a non-Caucasian protagonist? NO! None of those awesome suggestions matter, instead of taking the risk and possibly reviving the series, Ubisoft has taken the cool, yet very safe, pirate road on this one in Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag!
This being said, let’s look at what we know so far about this new “Assassin’s of the Caribbean” adventure, in which we will be pulling up the hood of Edward Kenway. The story pretty much follows the go to Creed formula, man falls from respectable and established grace and must turn to murdering templars either for vengeance or he really wants a damn Apple. You know the drill. From all the videos I have seen, basically they are taking the best bit of AC3 (the sea battles) and making it into a full game. Along the way you will encounter famous pirates from history, because apparently Blackbeard wants an Apple too. (Pirates and fruit, am I right?)
But that’s not what Ubisoft is putting their emphasis on now. What they want you to focus on now is killing templars in a pretty environment. Many upgrades have been made to the world, from the individually created rain drops to the beautiful sea. I have to say, after seeing some videos (see below) they have done a very good job, and it looks exceptional. I am afraid though that Ubisoft is edging too much into the “how it looks” rather than the gameplay. You can have a progressively more and more beautiful game but if you keep delivering the same gameplay and “what just happened?” endings with no answers, then people are gonna get fed up. I’m on my last straw with this one.
Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag sets sail on October 29th 2013 for PC, PS3, 360 and WiiU. It will also be available for PS4 and Xbox One later.
All I know is, if I can get drunk and say “where’s the rum gone?!” in fights, I’ll be a happy little pirate!
