Spidey swings back into action in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, set to launch alongside the new film

Activision Blizzard has made a TINGLING announcement: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 videogame is being developed and is due out next spring, to launch alongside the feature film of the exact same name. Developed by the same gang (Beenox) that brought you the first game, The Amazing Spider-Man, this new third-person adventure is set to expand upon events in the previous title and offers a re-imagining of the upcoming plot of the new film. An expansive NYC to explore is also being promised, though Beenox has their work cut out for them if they are hoping to match the greatness that is Spider-Man 2 on the PS2.

Thomas Wilson, Co-Studio Head of Beenox, is listening to fans and their ravenous demands, stating: “The first The Amazing Spider-Man game gave players their own beautifully animated, free-roaming city of Manhattan to traverse and explore – a playground of majestic scale in which to live out our common hero fantasies. And the overwhelming message from fans was: ‘MORE!’ That’s what our team is working toward with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – we’re giving gamers more abilities, more upgrades, more challenges, and more freedom to progress. And with the game launching alongside the new movie, offering an expanded interactive experience beyond the film, fans of the franchise won’t want to miss playing it.”

Gamers will once again by filling the spandex suit of my personal favorite superhero in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, though the title is more of a side-story with its own continuity separate from the film it is based off of, just like the first game. Spidey will be seeing old buddies and new foes in the game, which features more time playing as Peter Parker as he uses his journalistic skills as a photographer to investigate crime.

Manhattan is looking to be a lively place for Spidey to roam with many objectives to complete. A new system called “Hero or Menace” is being introduced too, which rewards players for stopping crime and punishes them for letting it linger. Web-swinging and combat will also be featured, because DUH.

Look for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 next spring when the film comes out, for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, and 3DS (phew!). More info on the game can be found here and there is a teaser trailer below for your viewing pleasure. Any Spidey fans excited for more sarcasm and New York web-slinging?!
