Developer Perihelion Interactive has announced that David Bradley has joined the voice cast of their forthcoming game, The Mandate. You will most likely be most familiar with Bradley as Argus Filch from the Harry Potter films or Walder Frey from Game of Thrones. The actor is new to voicing video game characters, but will likely give some weight to public awareness of the game.
The Mandate is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi sandbox RPG in which you assume the role of a court-martialed fleet captain, recently released from prison and tasked to subdue a rebellion. Bradley will assume the role of the disciplined tactician Lord High Admiral Suvarov, the commander of the Romanov empire’s Grand Fleet and chief advisor to the newly-appointed Empress. The Romanov empire is the leading group of multiple factions that left Earth in an attempt to sustain the human population, and the Empress is charged to hold together the other factions and hold the Mandate. You will be responsible for helping the Empress in her mission to restore order to the worlds and quelling the rebellion. To that effect, you will be in charge of carefully selecting and maintaining your vessel’s crew, the day-to-day operations of the ship, as well as leading your men into battle. You must not only be a good strategist, but have political prowess as well in order to deal with leaders of the other factions.
The game is currently under development but slated for early 2015, and right now there is a Kickstarter
funding campaign going on to help the developers meet their goals. Perihelion Interactive is an independent studio made up of a number of developers from big studios who are responsible for other big games such as Assassin’s Creed 1 & 2
, Splinter Cell
, and FarCry 2 & 3
, and claim to be huge sci-fi buffs of all different flavors. Hopefully these guys know what they’re doing and can put out a quality game that will be an entertaining strategy-based RPG. The Kickstarter, which ends on December 2, has 13 days to go and they are just over $200,000 shy of their $500,000 goal. If you have the money and the interest, throw some their way. This could be a promising game, and recruiting big name actors to do voice work at least shows that they are committed to try and bring us a quality game. For more information about The Mandate’s
story and development, check out their Kickstarter page as well as this interview
of the developers from Rock, Paper, Shotgun. Meanwhile, check out the trailer below to listen to David Bradley ruminate on the pains and regrets of losing comrades-at-arms:
