Polygon has reported that the fan-remake of the original Half-Life, Black Mesa, will be seeing a commercial release through Steam in the near future.
Black Mesa was initially available as a free download in 2012. The Steam release, however, will make use of the latest Source Engine, and will be available for a “relatively low price,” according to the developers. The developers cited the need for financial help, as well as the need to channel funds into improving the game even further, as two primary factors behind the decision to go retail with the title.
In addition to the pay-to-play version, a free version will be available for download but will lack some features found in the retail version.
No release date or price has been given for Black Mesa as of yet.
