Warhammer 40,000 creator Games Workshop has recently partnered with game developer Eutechnyx to bring us an exciting new “lane strategy” game, Storm of Vengeance. Vengeance will allow players to either command Space Marines and stave off an Ork invasion, or guide armies of Orks in an effort to destroy the Imperial civilization. For those who are familiar with the Warhammer 40,000 world, the game covers the Battle of Piscina IV, where Grand Master Belial’s company of 100 Dark Angel Space Marines took on an Ork WAAAGH! led by Warlord Ghazghkull Thraka and his use of never-before-seen telly-porty technology. In Storm of Vengeance, you will choose a side and attempt to defend or take over the planet.
Video game developer Eutechnyx has almost exclusively put out racing games in the past 15 years, so it’s interesting to see them attempt a different genre for this game. And the developers are calling Storm of Vengeance a “lane strategy” game, which is not something I have heard of before. The need for strategy as well as the ability to command armies makes me think of an RTS, but it could just as likely be a tower defense game, especially since the game will be available on both PC and mobile platforms. Whatever the genre, it should at least be fun for fans, and will likely fit well into the Warhammer 40,000 world’s mythos.
Storm of Vengeance is set to release on both PC and mobile devices in the first quarter of 2014.
