Free-to-play Soul Calibur: Lost Swords to launch exclusively on PS3 this spring

The next title in the Soul Calibur franchise, Soul Calibur: Lost Swords, will be launching exclusively on PS3 this upcoming spring. A downloadable, free-to-play title available through the PSN, Lost Swords is looking to breathe new life into the series with new mechanics, as well as being free-to-play for a limited amount of time (players must purchase additional time to keep playing; I knew it was too good to be true!).

Some new additions to the series that are being featured in Lost Swords are an item discovery and forging system, as well as elemental-based fighting mechanics. Gamers will be able to imbue their weapons with elemental effects like wind and fire from equipment they find along their journey, or just take these magical armaments from the carcasses of their defeated foes.

By the way, Soul Calibur: Lost Swords is single-player, so if you were thinking about playing a fighting game with friends, too bad! More information about the title can be found at its website. Check out a flashy trailer below if you are pumped; as for me, my soul isn’t burning for this.
